About me

Mads Bødker (b. 1974)

MA in Film- and Media studies from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark

PhD from the IT-University of Copenhagen, Denmark, dept. of Digital Aesthetics and Communication/Innovative Communications.

I am currently Assistant Professor at Copenhagen Business School, Center for Applied ICT. Here I work with interaction design (particularly for mobile services), methodological and design aspects of Human-Computer Interaction, as well as social and collaborative media. My areas of interest include:

  • Tourism and digital media
  • Prototyping for business and leisure technologies
  • Interaction design, user interfaces, and usability
  • Sketching and design methods
  • Human geography and place-making
  • Ethnography for IT design, particularly sensory/visual ethnography

Further, I like to look at the pragmatics of media arts and the influence of the arts in Interaction Design, design-as-research as an actual methodology, the culture of Open Source development, and business/organizational aspects of social and mobile media. Stuff like that.

I teach quite a bit at both the IT-University of Copenhagen (within eBusiness, primarily design-in-business and user-centered design related courses) and the the Copenhagen Business School (within HA and CM.IT, primarily social informatics/social media related courses)

Some of the more formal commitees and similar work I have been involved in includes:

2011: Technical chair, Danish Human-Computer Interaction Research Symposium, Copenhagen Business School, Nov. 2011

2011-ongoing: Member of Danish Bibliometrics peer-group 66, reviewing and ranking academic journals for Interaction Design

2010: Programme commitee, Mediteranean Conference on Information Systems, reviewer

2010: Chair, short-papers, OzCHI10, Brisbane

2009: Appointed respondent, Doctoral Consortium, OzCHI’09 Melbourne

2009: Co-arranger of the “Designing for Engaging Experiences” workshop series, at IFIP TC-13 Interact HCI Conference, Uppsala, and Nordic Design Research Conference (NORDES’09), Oslo

2008: Expert (by invitation), consultant on Web 2.0 and Network Technologies, Danish Ministry of Research and Innovation, June 2008

2006: Co-arranger, ACM CHI2006 Workshop on “Reflective HCI - Articulating a Research Agenda for a Critical Technical Practice”, Montreal, Canada 2006

2005: Group leader, MIL (Mobile Content Lab, TDC, Danish Broadcasting Association, IT-University of Copenhagen and the Danish Design School)

2004: Core group, DELCA (Disembodied Location-specific Conversational Agents), IT-University of Copenhagen

I also play in a fantastic band called skyphone. Not much to say, - check it out, e.g. on iTunes or last.fm or on boomkat

I live in Copenhagen, married, two kids…
